ABOUT esKETAMINE
Esketamine (Spravato) is an insurance-covered medication, made from part of the ketamine molecule and is approved by the FDA for the treatment of treatment resistant major depressive disorder and major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation. It is delivered as a nasal spray for in-office treatment. This derivative of the ketamine molecule is isolated from the whole molecule because due to its potency, it can be used at lower doses.
Esketamine can be approved for coverage by insurance in those who have tried at least two other antidepressant medications and have not experienced symptom improvement by 50% or more, or those with severe depression with heightened suicide risk.
